Workshop Purpose This workshop exists in order to… • To develop enough familiarity with new methods that you can start applying them right away in routine AND imaginative ways to complex challenges-at-hand • To draw attention to the role of different micro-design elements in shaping our interactions and encourage more mindful and inventive use of them
Design & Facilitation Team Thanks to our design team volunteers! • (John Towers) • (Lyse Edwards) • (Shane Costigan) • (Anya Gopfert) • (Ruth Heggie) • (Sheena Visram) • Ann Abbassi • Jaqualine Lindridge • Isabel Ho • Emma Gibbard • Mark Attah • Rachel Chappell • Dimple Keen Workshop Leaders • Fisher Qua • Anna Jackson
A note about Freedom & Responsibility during this immersion learning experience • Take advantage of opportunities to contribute AND continuously make space for others to do the same • Play close attention to the role that structure plays in shaping interactions • Prepare for a high dynamic rate of random variability • Engage with seriously playful curiosity & try to notice the intimate, imperfect, and intricate details of your experience • Expect surprise, confusiasm, and dynamic incompleteness • Give more than you take
Mad Tea Etiquettewith a bow to Bob Dylan1) Stay curious, dig deep, have fun 2) Don’t over think answers 3) Finish each of the open sentences with a short phrase!
Instructions & Steps • Evenly distribute participants between two groups. One groups forms an inner circle and the second forms an outer circle. People should be facing each other (3-5 mins) • Put up an open ended sentence and invite everyone to complete the statement and elaborate with whatever time is available (30 seconds) • *DING* Bells • Groups both shift one person to the right and respond to a new statement (30 seconds) • *DING* Bells and repeat (3-10 mins total)

25/10 CrowdsourcingSift-and-Sort a Group’s Most Powerful Actionable Ideas
Instructions & Steps • Write down your idea • Pass cards around while milling • 5 rounds • Rate each card: 1 = I like it, but am not going to make it happen to 5 = Yes, and I’m in! [adjust scale for each invitation] • Decide before looking at other scores. Put rating on the back of the card.
Instructions & Steps (Contd) 6. Add all the scores after the last round 7. Call out the score on your card (max score 25) 8. Post high-to-low scoring ideas on a wall tapestry
Write down your top idea on an index card. Try to include a first step if one comes to mind.
Scoring: 5 = Yes! I would be excited to invest my own time or energy to help make that happen. 1= It’s an ok idea, but I’m unlikely put any of my own energy or time into making it happen.
Debrief What did you notice about 25/10? How was it organized? What were the steps? What did it make possible? Where could you use it? Where could it be useful?
