Presenter’s Background • May 2006: Completed Education Endorsement at Saginaw Valley State University. • Aug 2007 –Sept 2009: Taught 6th Grade Science in Kissimmee, Florida. • Aug 2010: Completed a Masters in Technology Education. • Sept 2009 -Present: MS/HS Science Teacher at Tekonsha Community Schools (Near Coldwater and Battle Creek). www.tekonshaschools.org
Pros & Cons of Using iPads Disadvantages • Report feeling frustration when highlighting text and taking notes within e-books on the iPad. • Multiple “window” usage. • Some consider the device expensive. Advantages Encourages exploration of additional course topics. Manages their time better. Provides new functions and tools for learning. Increase learning. Makes their courses more interesting. According to Forbes (1/21/2011)
iPad Research Studies • 90% teachers reported students using 12 key skills • For example: Leadership, media literacy, collaboration, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, etc. • 75% students reported they • Learned more than expected • Felt they were solving a big problem • Worked harder than normal • 24/7 access to computing resources at home and at school. Implementing iPads • iPad compatibly with severs and wireless routers. • Storage is secured. • iTunes software and iTunes on teacher workstations. • Student handbook/polices are in place. • Teachers are familiar with using the iPad. • Setup a teacher/department voucher iTune accounts. • Try Apps before buying class sets (Most times Apps are half off when buying 20+).

Why Use Moodle with iPads? • The iPad needs a learning management system. • Moodle provides: • Free or incentive usage and programming. • Easy navigation along with enlargement and zoom capabilities with iPad features. • Students can log in, view files, take quizzes, and submit online assignments. • An online and mobile digital storage of learning materials.
Tips for Using Moodle on the iPad • Create a direct Moodle app/icon on iPad Home Screen. • Organize your Moodle Course in a student friendly matter. • Edit and design functions are easier done on a PC. • Conduct a lesson on Moodle before using your students. • Only show current Moodle assignments and links.
