  2. >The music of India is based on the two pillars namely, the tala and the raga. • Tala is the rhythmic form of Indian music, while Raga is the melodic form.

  3. What is the Indian tala? • Refers to a metrical cycle of beats. • It is composed of long and short beats that are accented and unaccented. • It is characterized by the sam, khali and tali. sam =the first beat of the tala is stressed as the “ x ” mark is written.

  4. khali= is the empty beat. tali = is the accented beat. What are the different kinds of Tala? 1. Dadra 2. Jhaptal 3. Ektal 4. Kehrva 5. Rupak 6. Tintal 7. Brahmtal
