Importance of Games/Activities For Teaching Phonics All sensory channels are used in a variety of games andactivities so that the teaching target transfers from short-term memory to long-term memory. Rhyme, song, jingles, nursery rhymes, poetry, big books, stories with repetitive and rhythmic language, tongue twisters, games with a beat/rhythm and movement are essential here to heighten the students’ awareness of letter-sound relationships, i.e. phonics.
