Munro Leys' 16 Days of Activism Program aims to raise awareness and combat gender-based violence, sexual harassment, exploitation, and abuse in the world of work. By promoting a culture intolerable of violence and providing education, support, and advocacy, this program seeks to create a safer and more inclusive workplace environment.

In November this year Munro Leys rolled out its first ever 16 days of activism against violence against women community education programme through its Public Issues Law platform.
Violence against women (VAW) occurs in both private and public spheres and cuts across age, colour, creed, political affiliation and economic, social or political status, and occurs in almost all geographical locations. Corporates are no different and more often than not, are less involved in awareness campaigns on VAW. VAW is a violation of one’s human right to live a life free from violence. Awareness campaigns represent a critical opportunity to begin changing mind-sets and behaviours in relation to VAW through advocates in the corporate sector.
adopt an integrated, rights-based approach to eliminating violence against women within the corporate sector.
Achieve the buy-in and set the ground work! provide awareness on VAW and its effects at work with a focus on relevant laws, accessing the justice system and legislative compliance.
build a rapport with members of the business community and NGO network partners. target retail and manufacturing industries, banking and financial institutions where there are high levels of female workers and potential for abuse.
Develop a strong support system! develop and improve internal policies and protocols. provide information on access to support services.
Advocate and call for an end to VAW! promote a workplace culture intolerable of sexual harassment in the work place and gender-based violence.
Not just a box-ticking exercise! influence advocates for change within corporate institutions. identify gaps in policies/practices and legislation to influence law reform.
Influencing practitioners in the field It starts with us! Munro Leys has taken their own staff through several sessions focused on VAW-related issues including awareness on how to apply for domestic violence restraining orders Junior lawyers have also been trained to assist with representing survivors apply for DVROs
Overwhelming! With further requests to develop/improve internal policies and protocols in the new year.
Through the community education program Munro Leys was able to hold 16 awareness sessions with over 550 people in attendance at different locations in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions.
