NLR User Communities • Two Communities to Utilize NLR • Black box user - Application and Middleware researchers needing high-speed network to transfer data across the Nation. • At SC2004 - all point-to-point connections GigE • Lambdas • L3 Production • Gray Box User-Network Researcher (combination of black and white components) • Part of the box will be black (or none) • Rest will be white - experiments with network protocols and control plane • Experimentation at different layer in the stack
NLR Experiments Support Services • Goals: • Provide end-to-end support to research community’s utilization of NLR • Provide support to NLR Networking Research Committee (NNRC) and its Chief Scientist • Objectives: • Gathering of information related to experiments • Assisting research teams in defining their experiments in relation to use of NLR • Generating a proforma to assist NLR TSS teams in providing end-to-end services • Creation of archive of information related to networking research that will be valuable to NLR, member institutions and research community at large
NLR Experiments Support Services • Experiments Support Services (ESS): • Assist research teams in identifying and documenting intended use of NLR to assure capability and availability of resources • Provide engineering support • Work with researchers to ensure end-to-end connectivity • Provide assistance and follow up throughout life of experiment • Network data archiving, data dissemination and outreach to research community
NLR Outreach • Provide leverage to regional efforts and vise versa • Enhance ability to collaborate with international partners in advanced networking research • Unprecedented opportunity to support network research on a national scale • NLR a strong participant in Global Lambda Integrated Facility (GLIF)
