Needs Statement 1A.Increase percentage of migrant preschool children (ages 3-5) who participate in preschool programs 1B.Increase percentage of migrant families that use at least 2 recommended strategies to prepare their preschool children (ages 3-5) for kindergarten Objective Goal #1: Migrant Pre-K children will come to school better prepared for Kindergarten Obj. #1. Increase percentage of migrant preschool children (age 4) who participate in preschool programs Changed the age to just 4 year olds Moved 1B under solutions We will still gather data as listed in the chart presented at the MEP Conference School Readiness

  3. Needs Statement 1.Increase percentage of migrant LEP students (grades 3-5) who receive data-informed supplementary instruction in reading and math 2. Increase percentage of Migrant families (K- 5) that monitor and assist with completion of their children’s homework needs to increase. Objective Goal #2: Migrant LEP students (grades 3-5) will succeed in reading and math. Obj. #1: Decrease the reading and math gap by 5% each year between LEP Migrant students in grades 3-5 and Non-migrant students and between Migrant LEP students and Migrant Students. Needs #2 becomes a solution We will still gather data as listed in the chart presented at the MEP Conference Elementary Reading & Math

  4. Need Statement 1. Increase percentage of migrant secondary students (grades 6-12) who receive supplementary instruction that prepares them to succeed on their EOGs/EOCs/Computer Skills tests. 2. The percentage of Migrant families (gr. 6-12) who provide computers and internet access to support their children’s academic development needs to increase. Objective Goal #3: Priority for Service (PFS) MEP grades 9-12 students will receive quality supplemental MEP service to help them succeed on state tests. Obj.1: Decrease the reading, math and computer skills gap by 5% each year between Migrant students in grades 6-8 and Non-migrant students. Obj. 2: The percentage of PFS grades 9-12 students who take an individual EOC test and pass the EOC that year will increase by 5% each year. Secondary Reading and Math

  5. 1. Increase percentage of migrant secondary students (grades 6-12) who receive supplementary instruction that prepares them to succeed on their EOGs/EOCs/Computer Skills tests. 2. The percentage of Migrant families (gr. 6-12) who provide computers and internet access to support their children’s academic development needs to increase. Narrowed the focus to Priority for Service Separated into two objectives based on EOC and EOG tests Made it more relevant to EOC tests that showed in the student profile to be most in need Need #2 became a solution We will still gather data as listed in the chart presented at the MEP Conference Secondary Continued

  6. Need Statement This goal is for LEAs in which over 10% of their migrant population is made up of Out-of-School Youth. (10% is based on ’06-’07 numbers) They will be expected to: A) Report number of OSY who have been enrolled at any time in a U.S. (K-12) school, and B) Report specific reasons for why they dropped out of school Objective Goal #4: Improve the educational opportunities and quality of life for OSY Objective: Increase the number of OSY who receive supplemental service or assistance through MEP efforts. (Baseline data in Year 1) OSY

  7. Notes to the Field • Comprehensive Needs Assessment Report has been sent to and approved by OME • The original 9 Needs/Priority Statements have now become 6 Goals with 7 measurable objectives to be phased in this year and next.
