  5. Part 1-1 • Wo jiao Amanda. 我叫Amanda。 • I am Amanda. • Wo xue zhongwen. 我学中文。 • I learn Chinese. • Wo xihuan xue zhongwen. 我喜欢学中文。 • I like learning Chinese.

  6. Part 1-2 • Ni jiao Lin Shan. 你叫林山。 • You are Lin Shan. • Ni ye xue zhongwen. 你也学中文。 • You learn Chinese, too. • Ni ye xihuan xue zhongwen. 你也喜欢学中文。 • You like learning Chinese, too.

  7. Part 1-3 • Ta jiao Lin Zhong. 他叫林中。 • He is Lin Zhong. • Ta bu xue zhongwen. 他不学中文。 • He does not learn Chinese. • Ta hui shuo zhongwen. 他会说中文。 • He can speak Chinese.

  10. Part 2-2 • Ni de mingzi jiao Lin Shan. 你的名字叫林山。 • Your name is Lin Shan. • Ni ye zhu zai meiguo. 你也住在美国。 • You live in the USA, too. • Ni ye xiang xue zhongwen. 你也想学中文。 • You want to learn Chinese, too.

  11. Part 2-3 • Tade mingzi jiao Lin Zhong. 他的名字叫林中。 • His name is Lin Zhong. • Ta zhu zai zhongguo. 他住在中国。 • He lives in China. • Ta xiang xue yingwen. 他想学英文。 • He wants to learn English.

  13. Part 3-1 • Wo renshi tade baba. 我认识他的爸爸。 • I know his father. • Wo ye renshi tade mama. 我也认识他的妈妈。 • I know his mother, too. • Tamen hui shuo zhongwen. 他们会说中文。 • They can speak Chinese.

  14. Part 3-2 • Wo renshi tade jiejie. 我认识他的姐姐。 • I know his older sister. • Wo ye renshi tade meimei. 我也认识他的妹妹。 • I know his younger sister, too. • Tamen bu hui shuo zhongwen. 他们不会说中文。 • They cannot speak Chinese.

  15. Part 3-3 • Wo renshi tade gege. 我认识他的哥哥。 • I know his older brother. • Wo ye renshi tade didi. 我也认识他的弟弟。 • I know his younger brother, too. • Tamen zhi hui ting zhongwen. 他们只会听中文。 • They can only (listen) understand Chinese. • (They cannot speak it.)

  22. Part 5-2 • Wo gei ni da dianhua. 我给你打电话。 • I gave you a call. • Ni zuotian bu zai jia. 你昨天不在家。 • You were not at home yesterday. • Ni qu shangxue. 你去上學。 • You went to school.

  23. Part 5-3 • Gei ta da dianhua. 给他打电话。 • Give him a call. • Ta mingtian zai jia. 他明天在家。 • He will be at home tomorrow. • Ta bu qu shangxue. 他不去上學。 • He won’t go to school.
