LEADING YOUR CLUBWhat are the skills required for effective leadership? • Enthusiasm/Passion • Management skills-communication, motivational, knowledge etc • Team Building • Integrity
Effective Leadership CLP recommendations: - Promote fellowship/collaboration among members - Lead problem solving initiatives - Build on past successes - Be accessible to members by promoting direct honest communication - Embody principles and values of Rotary & encourage members to do the same - Ensure every member is active
Who will you work with to achieve goals of club? THE CLUB LEADERSHIP TEAM President Directors Club Secretary Club Treasurer Sgt-at-Arms Committee chairs V.P. P.E.
Ensure clear communication between leaders, members and Dist. Leaders • Ensure they attend Dist training meetings,D.A. • Provide for continuity in leadership by making appointments for multiple years and have current, incoming and past chairs on all committees • Involve leadership team in goal setting process • Work with CLT to prepare future leaders/ensure smooth transition to new R. year
ROLE OF THE B.O.D. “The B.O.D. is the governing body of the club responsible for all committees and club decisions” -Chap. 3 M.O.P. Who are in the B.O.D. ? President P.E. V.P. Sec. Treasurer Directors as elected by members ( May or may not be in BOD)

4 QUESTIONS YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF 1 Will you appoint any additional committee? 2 What will you consider when determining your club committee’s structure? 3 Does the committee meet the needs and goals of your club? 4 Will you eliminate any HAVE YOU APPOINTED YOUR COMMITTEES?
WHAT QUALITIES WOULD YOU CONSIDER WHEN APPOINTING COMMITTEE CHAIRS? • Good judgment • Enthusiasm • Imagination • Leadership ability • Interest • Knowledge/ experience of the job • Knowledge of Rotary
EFFECTIVE COMMITTEES • Appoint chairs with experience • Appoint chairs based on ability • Appoint chairs for a 3 year term • Add subcommittees as required • Participate in meetings • Solicit Feed back • Regular evaluation
ROLE OF THE DISTRICT “ The activities and organization of a Rotary District shall exist solely to help the individual Rotary club advance the Object of Rotary.” M.O.P. Therefore the purpose of the District is to support Rotary Clubs
HOW DOES YOUR DISTRICT SUPPORT YOUR CLUB ? • Provide guidance • Connect clubs that have similar interests • Serve as information resource • Provides opportunity to serve on District level committees • Conveys Rotary information to clubs • Coordinates TRF programmes
Role of the DG with respect to your club • Act as resource • Inspire & motivate members • Keep clubs & their officers informed of District activities & opportunities • Keep clubs informed of R.I.’s directives

How can your AG support you in running your club? • Assists in identifying goals using ‘Planning Guide for E.R.C.’s • Periodic review of progress made towards goals of club • Encourage your club to follow through with suggestions from DG • Visits to club-at least once every quarter • Plans & schedules DG visit • Represent Dg at club assembly related to DG visit • Act as liaison between DG and club • Assist with service projects • Identify and encourage future leader development
