  1. Welcome to Sikhi Class 2 • WALT (We are learning to): • Get to know each other better • Understand the course content and expectations

  2. School Policies • Attendance and Punctuality • Uniform • Homework • Behaviour • Reward • You will be given copies to stick in your books but let’s go through the basics today......

  3. Attendance and Punctuality • Call or Text head teacher…….for any known absences • Catch up with missed work • 2 or more absences= removal from the school • 6pm in your seats ready to learn- you make up late minutes after apologising and speaking to the teacher

  4. Homework • Recorded in Homework log and signed by parents • Homework variety • Additional homework can be completed too • Homework feedback and targets recorded • Incomplete or unsatisfactory= do it again and detention.

  5. Behaviour for Learning • Arrive on time to every lesson, properly equipped. • Enter the classroom in an orderly way. • Ensure your head is covered at all times. • Remove your coat and take out equipment necessary for the lesson. • Switch off and put away in your bag mobile phones and personal music equipment (including ear phones). • No chewing gum • No bad language • Sit in silence whilst the teacher takes the register and explains the work. • Work as directed by the teacher or support teacher. • Follow all instructions at the first time of asking. • Make sure your work is always the BEST you can do. • Hands up, no shouting out. • Do not do anything that disrupts the teacher or other students. • At the end of the lesson, tidy away quietly and sit down. • Wait in silence to be dismissed by the teacher. • Complete all homework on time.

  6. 5 Behaviour Stages Students who disrupt learning can expect: STAGE 1 –Verbal warning STAGE 2 –Move to another part of the classroom STAGE 3 –Time out Period STAGE 4 –Removal from class room by senior leader STAGE 5 –Removal from class by Head Teacher All students have a right to learn in a calm, supportive environment Students who disrupt lessons can expect firm action

Structure of the class • Go and see maharajbefore entering the classroom. • You must be in your seats ready to learn at 6pm sharp • Copy down the title and WALT without the teacher reminding you. • Start the greeting task in silence whilst the teacher does the register • 10mins- Prayer time and Pentee

  9. Your expectations of me and the lessons…. TASK:On your piece of paper write down the following:- • What you expect from me? • What you expect in the lessons? • What activities you would like to do in the lessons?

  14. Introduce your ‘common’ neighbour.... Find the person with the same number card as you Introduce yourself to your numbered partner...name, age, school, hobbies, interests, family etc etc Find six things you have in common with each other In 5 minutes you will need to introduce your neighbour...their name, 3 facts and 3 things you have in common

  15. Paper Roll...... Task 1: Take as many sheets of paper as you wish......... Task 2: You must tell us one thing about yourself for every sheet 1 sheet = 1 fact 10 sheets= 10 facts

  16. The Balloon Game..... Aim: You need to be the last person standing with an un-popped ballon!!! GO.............................................

  17. Communication Game... • TASK: You must arrange yourselves in the categories provided WITHOUT verbally speaking!!! • Height order • Age order • Date of Birth • Alphabetical first name order

  18. Warm Up - building unity! Mutual Support! • Split up into boys and girls • Form a circle • Everyone turn right, 90 degrees facing the person back in front of you • Put your hands on the shoulders of the person in front of you • Now everyone needs to take a seat – sit on person’s laps behind you! (Without taking hands off the person in front of you!) • WHO CAN STAY SEATED FOR THE LONGEST TIME???????

  19. 20 questions.... Split into boys and girls One boy comes up first and has to think of something found in the gurdwara The girls have 20 questions to ask to guess the object The boy can only answer yes or no Swap teams..... Get your thinking caps on.....

  20. Sikhi Pictionary..... Split into boys andgirls One team member comes up and draws ANYTHING to do with Sikhi The opposing team has 2 minutes to guess.............

Newspaper Bridge..... • Each team will be given an equal amount of newspaper and sticking tape. • You have 30 minutes to build a bridge which would withstand the weight of a water jug. • At the end of the building time, the team which builds the strongest bridge, sustaining the weight of the water jug is the winner.

  22. Our Classroom This is our classroom....let’s look after it together...as a TEAM of brothers and sisters. TASK 1: In the middle of your piece of paper write out your name in jazzy writing. TASK 2: Write down the meaning of your name-ask your teacher for help TASK 3: Decorate the writing and the paper with borders, gems, things representing your name. These beautiful names will adorn our wall....
