Reflection • Reflectionmeansthinking deeply about something • Reflection can be silent • Or people can reflect while listening to music
Encountering Mystery • Encountering mystery meansexperiencing a sense of something unknowable • Religious ritual is one way of responding to such an encounter
Wonder • Wondermeans a sense of amazement at something • Natural phenomena may lead to a sense of wonder • Worship can be a way of responding to that feeling
Worship as a Response to Mystery • Worship can be: • a way of showing what is really important in life • an expression of having a meaningful place in the universe • a response to something that seems unknowable or amazing
Encounter with God • This means feeling an awareness or presence of God • It can occur in many different ways andcircumstances
Celebration • A time to rejoice • Important times in life when something wonderful happens or happened can make a person want to worship God • Worship in this context becomes a way to celebrate and to give thanks
Communication • A two-way process of imparting or exchanging information • When a person wants to communicate with God they may say a personal prayer
Worship • An expression of reverence for God that can involve prayer, rituals, silence, singing or dancing • An act of worship is important because of what it means • Worship is a way of expressing belief • Sacred music is used to worship God in a way that words sometimes cannot
