  1. Hello Grade 2 students at Notre Dame School, Flat Stanley visited our family in Plymouth, Michigan. Plymouth is about 20miles (30kms) west of Detroit, Michigan. Our city is small with under 10,000 people and only 2.2 square miles of land. In many ways, Michigan is similar to Ontario. We share the same climate, languages, foods, and most holidays. One notable exception is Thanksgiving, which we celebrate on the fourth Thursday of November. And we call Boxing Day the “Day after Christmas”. The Ontario and Michigan economies are also highly intertwined. In particular, the automotive industry is prevalent in both. Actually, Flat Stanley’s hosts here in Plymouth both work on designing cars for different car companies (Ford and Toyota). Here are some photos of Flat Stanley’s visit to Plymouth…

  2. Plymouth was named after the departure city of the Mayflower, the ship which carried the pilgrims to the New World. The people of Plymouth, England gave this stone to Plymouth, Michigan in 1967

  3. Here is Flat Stanley in front of our great public library. Behind the library (to the left) is our city hall and police station.

  4. Plymouth, Michigan is in the United States. You will see many American flags flying here. This flag is sometimes called Old Glory, the Stars and Stripes, or the Star Spangled Banner

  5. In late January of each year, Plymouth hosts an annual Ice Festival. There are ice carving competitions, cross country skiing for young children, and lots of food vendors. Flat Stanley enjoyed the festival, despite being a bit cold without his coat.

  6. Ice Carving competition Food for every taste In love with the sculptures Cross-country skiing Wishing he was Frosty Sledding
