  1. Couple Counseling Increases Antiretroviral (ARV) Uptake by Pregnant Women: A Case Report in Zambia Defense Force (ZDF) Health Facilities • Zambia has a total population of 13.3 million (2010). • The national HIV prevalence rate is 14.3%. • In pregnant women: 16% • The majority of HIV infection in infants occur through mother-to-child transmission (MTCT). • More than 95% of women attending antenatal care services (ANC) are tested for HIV, although only 10% of couples in Zambia have tested for HIV together. • By December 2009, 63% of pregnant women living with HIV were provided with antiretroviral drugs for PMTCT. • ZDF has a network of 54 health facilities representing 16% of all health services in Zambia.
