  2. NAIS • Project Symbol:TCP/JOR/3102 (D) • Starting Date: October 2007 • Completion Date: December 2009 • Government Ministry responsible for project execution: Ministry of Agriculture • FAO Contribution: US$272 000

  3. NAISObjective • The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture to establish an effective and efficient information system that will support agricultural development and ensure food security in Jordan, based on the needs and demands of its stakeholders and integrating the various resources in the MOA.

  5. NAIS Achievements Organizational arrangements: - Designation of the National Project Coordinator. - Establishment of the NAIS Technical Steering Committee. - Joint Supervisory Technical Service mission by GIL and RNE to launch project activities

  7. - Initial workshop of representatives from agricultural institutions and stations and other stakeholder groups(22/10/2007) - Seminar for senior managers and donors in the agricultural sector (24/10/2007).

  8. Recruitment of national consultants as: • Information and Communication Management (ICM) Specialist • Telecommunications and Networking (TN) • Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Specialist. • Recruitment of national Project Technical Adviser (PTA) as recommended during the inception mission

  9. Issuing Letter of Agreement (LOA) for national institution in Jordan for providing a technical assessment study for the existing information systems and applications in MOA and other stakeholders’ organizations for integrating various existing applications into a NAIS application

  10. - Workshop to discuss the draft national information strategy for agricultural science and technology with the steering committee and stakeholders (27/8/2008). - Assessment of the current status and preparation of recommendations for computer hardware and software, and communication infrastructure

  11. - Study tour for four specialized information staff to receive on the job training programme in information management systems/ tools development and management.

  12. -Procurement of hardware and software at each site provided by Government of Jordan, where necessary, as required for accessing the NAIS via the Internet. - Workshop to present the revised national information strategy for agricultural science and technology to the steering committee and stakeholders

  13. - Implementation for NAIS development prototype by FAO/RNE is completed and deployment of NAIS modules/ systems are taking place

Under Working - Training of Trainers’ workshop on the use of the NAIS/AGRIS Application Profile including guidelines and procedures for documents indexing and cataloguing for the Research outputs and Publications information system modules for staff from NAIS stakeholders - Staff Training • Training

  16. Training Laboratory - Establishment and development of the virtual Jordan Agricultural Information Centre (JAIC) including institutional issues with roles and responsibilities; and activating the roles and responsibilities of already established NAIS steering and technical committees.

What we will do from 2008-2010 • Institutional Development Establishment and development of the virtual Jordan Agricultural Information Centre (JAIC) • Training activities • Training of trainers’ workshop on the use of the NAIS/AGRIS Application Profile • Training of ten national technical staff in various aspects of the information cycle • Training core staff (administrators and researchers) from the participating institutions and centers • Training activities for stakeholders

Training of Trainers on the principles and practice of designing, building, and maintaining computer networks systems • training on Network Security System (NSS) to protect NAIS Network • Conducting stakeholders' workshops and delivering presentations at relevant events, to increase awareness of Internet technology and the NAIS initiative. • Completion of the overall computer hardware and communication infrastructure in MOA

Vision and Mission The vision is to develop an effective and efficient network for harnessing information and knowledge for a transformed and sustainable agricultural sector that is modernized, productive, profitable and competitive nationally, regionally and internationally. The mission is to build a common and freely accessible information system through partnership in the generation, collection, processing, archival, and dissemination of agricultural information.

Goal Specific Objectives The goal is to contribute to the transformation of Jordan’s agricultural sector to one that is modernized, productive, profitable and competitive nationally, regionally and internationally. Specific Objectives is to strengthen availability, accessibility, applicability, sharing of agricultural information and knowledge to researchers, managers, decision makers and others stakeholders.
