  2. Freak Shows Lesson Objectives: • To discover what freak shows were and why they were so popular. • To investigate whether there are still ‘freak shows’ around today.

  3. Debate Rules • Only one person can speak at a time • If you want to speak then raise either your top hat or sad face • I will then select people to speak. This is going to be a great debate I just know it!

  4. 7C The Great Debate Groups 3 and 4 • Is it fair to use disabilities as entertainment? • We should be celebrating what people can do not what they can’t? Groups 1 and 2 • People enjoy watching them? • As a freak show owner if they were banned how would I make money? • If it wasn’t for freak shows what would the ‘freaks’ do? • How would they survive?

  5. Citizenship We are now going to fill out our Citizenship forms.

Citizenship Subject: History- Freak shows Title of Activity: Freak show debate What was the task in this activity?: The class was split in two, we had to imagine either we were a freak and argue why freak shows should be banned. Or that we were a freak show showman and argue why freak shows should continue.

  7. Homework • Using the work that we have done over the last two lessons, please answer the following questions in your exercise books…. Victorians enjoyed freak shows because…………… Showmen wanted to continue running freak shows because……………………..Due to changes in society and advances in medical science, freak shows fell out of favour because……..
