2. Introductions • Originally from Galveston, Texas • Texas State University ( was Southwest Texas when I was there) • - B.S. Elementary Education • -GT Certified • 18th year in the district- all in First Grade • Two wonderful daughters: Katelyn (24) graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2012 with a Marine Biology degree/Environmental Science. Jessica (20) is in her third at Texas State studying Marketing.

3. School Wide Community Agreements • These agreements provide the groundwork for beginning to build a safe learning environment where students feel included, valued, and accepted.

13. Homework Routine • Monday- Spelling- SPELLING CHOICE • Tuesday-Math • Wednesday – Phonics/Reading • Thursday-Spelling • Read aloud with your child 15 minutes each night and complete reading log • Homework Should Be Done in Pencil • Make up work is due the same amount of days your child is absent.

14. Reading Log Parent Reading Concerns or Celebrations Please let me know how your child is doing in the areas of fluency, stamina, focus, word solving, etc. Please complete the reading log each night to verify that your child has read aloud with you or listened to you read aloud with them.

15. How Do I Get Home? • If there is a change in how your child is getting home, please send a note in your child’s red folder or email me prior to the start of school. Do not e-mail. • During the school day, be sure to call in any changes to the office by 1:00pm. • This will help greatly with making sure your child gets to the right place safely!  • If e-mailing me with last minute changes please do before noon.

16. T-Shirts • You Can Pre-Order Tonight! • $8.00 • Class will wear on Field Trips, Library Days, Field Day • Students & Parents are able to order

17. Field Trips • Fall –Sweet Berry Farms/Marble Falls-Oct. • Spring-? • All parents welcome to attend but please no siblings!

18. Special Days in First Grade • Johnny Appleseed Day – Late September (September 26th!) • Wild Rumpus – Late October • Polar Express Day – Early December • Penguin Unit- Late January/Early February

19. Homeroom Parents Our Room Mothers: • As special events arise, the moms would appreciate your help with volunteer efforts! Everyone’s help is greatly encouraged and appreciated!

20. Conferences • Testing will be completed in the next few weeks • Note will be sent home to sign up for conference time to meet and discuss progress and goals OR you may sign up tonight for a conference time • Please remember Early Release Days are Friday, October 3rd and Wednesday, October 8th Afternoons set aside for conferences • NOTE: Early release is at 11:45am
