  1. Team Name: Plantae – Tracheophyta Members: K. Sethi, K. Fu, A. Silverstein, D. Radu, D. Lee, A. De los santos, A. Ton, A. Gulati, A. Venkatesan, K. Swart, K. Hartog, N. Gunaratne, E. Barbarite, M. Nagaraj • Chosen species: Acacia Anegadensis “Pokemeboy” • Habitat: Shrubland • Ex: British Virgin Islands • No. of species in category = 24 • Assessment – critically endangered • Basic Information: Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate it to be locally common on limestone and scarce on sand dunes. Treated as one location with no distinct subpopulations. Extent of occurrence: 25 km², Area of occupancy: <10 km². Native to British Virgin Islands • Ecology: Definite preference to limestone substrate – field data show a frequency >50% on limestone and <5% on sand dunes (based on 104 x 20 m² plots). Field observations indicate poor recruitment – relatively few seedlings or saplings observed. Classified as a single island endemic species. Plantae Tracheophyta Magnoliopsida Fabales Leguminosae

  2. Conservation Plan • Initiate a seedling cultivation program in a botanical garden or nursery. • Create protected areas in which loose livestock cannot trample or graze and where new construction is not allowed. • Pass wildlife legislation in order to further protect the Acacia anegadensis. • Isolate the Acacia anegadensis to protect the plant from invasive species. • Sources • http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/43894/0 • http://www.globaltrees.org/tp_pokemeboy.htm • http://culturesheet.org/fabaceae:acacia • http://zipcodezoo.com/Plants/A/Acacia_anegadensis/ • http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayFulltext?type=1&fid=240088&jid=ORX&volumeId=38&issueId=03&aid=240087&bodyId=&membershipNumber=&societyETOCSession= • http://si-pddr.si.edu/dspace/bitstream/10088/6055/1/00188.pdf • http://www.reunion2008.eu/pdf/en/Pages%20from%2042.10_LOW_FINAL_book_EN-3.pdf
