  1. AFFIRMATIVE INFORMAL COMMANDS WHEN TO USE HOW TO FORM

  2. Familiar commands are used with anyone with whom you are on a first name basis, family members, people you know very well.

  3. These commands are called “affirmative” because with them, you are telling someone to do something. You are NOT forbidding them from doing something.

  4. Familiar affirmative commands are used to make a request in a courteous manner or to order someone to do something, or to give directions.

  5. The familiar command form is also known as the tú command, because it is informal.

  6. How can you create a familiar affirmative command? • To form the familiar, affirmative command, simply put the verb in the tú form, and drop the final “s”

  7. Here are some examples. • infinitivetú formcommand • hablar hablas habla • comer comes come • escribir escribes escribe

  8. Look at the following: • Speak Spanish, please. • Habla español, por favor. • Eat your vegetables. • Come tus verduras. • Write your name here. • Escribe tu nombre aquí.

  9. What do you notice about the familiar,affirmative command form?

  10. It is exactly the same as the Ud. (3rd person) form.

  11. Irregular forms • There are 8 irregular familiar, affirmative command forms that you will need to memorize. • tener-ten(have) venir-ven(come) hacer-haz(do, make) poner-pon(put) • ir-ve(go) salir-sal(leave,go out) • ser-sé(be) decir-di(tell, say)

Let’s Review • You use familiar, affirmative commands to tell someone you know to do something, to make a request, or to give directions. • This command form is also called the tú command. • You create these commands by putting the verb in the tú form, and removing the final “s”. • There are 8 irregular forms to memorize.
