Mission of the Office This office is intended to serve as a link for ideas, and a tool that will allow us to build stronger communities and reach out more effectively to citizens in need. We serve as a bridge to physically connect Faith-Based leaders and Community Non- Profit Organizations to people and resources in state government
Creation of the Governor’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives • Created by an Executive Order March 14, 2005 • Formalizes the longstanding community and faith-based outreach effort of the executive branch • Provides Community and Faith Based Organizations with a specific point of contact for information, resources and potential opportunities for funding

Role of the Office • Advise the Governor on policies, priorities and objectives for state government activities to address social needs in Michigan • Assist organizations in identifying and applying for federal, state, and other funding opportunities • Identify, promote and share innovative and model community faith-based programs, initiatives, and best practices • Create an opportunity for Faith based leaders to serve as an advisory committee to the Governor through the development of the Statewide Faith Based Committee and Clergy Leadership Advisory Counsel • Work closely with community and faith-based • organizations to promote citizen patriotism
Will work with State of Michigan department liaisons to determine available funding for various initiatives Will conduct Regional Workshops, and trainings to assist organizations in growing their capacity to service the community, through community forums Will seek federal Grant Opportunities Will partner with State Departments to keep the faith based and community partners updated with relevant information Operation of the Office
Parameters of Activities • Cannot engage in activity that would violate the government prohibition on establishment of religion • Office is focused solely on improving the lives of Michigan citizens in local communities
