WHAT IS YOUR ROLE? • Evaluator • Facilitator • Counselor • Motivator • Role Model
EVALUATION • Selection of 1st, 2nd & 3rd place in your category • May be more than one or none • Determine a point value (out of 100) for each project • Judge team projects just like individual projects
MUST Have • Display board • Scientific method categories including abstract. • Log Book • Permantly bound journal. Emphasis on chronology of background research and data collection. • Research paper • Introduction, problem statement, literature review, hypothesis, tables, graphs, results, conclusion, bibliography.
Competing for: • Grand Awards • 3 trips to Intel ISEF • Category Awards • 1st, 2nd, 3rd place • State Fair participation • Specialty Awards

It is possible to NOT have a project win any given placement.
EVALUATION FORM • See evaluation form for categories • All of the categories have been emphasized with the student - with special emphasis on: • Quantitative data collection • Graphical analysis • Understanding of when a difference in the data means REAL independent variable effect as opposed to chance • In engineering - creativity and inventiveness
EVALUATION FORM • Please write substantial comments. The forms will be returned to the students anonymously. 3. Please total your score and return all forms to me (or my assistant) 4. Don’t forget placements on the placement form (one per team).
SELECTION PROCESS 1. When interviews are complete, tell me that the category participants are excused. 2. Return to judging room to caucus and talk about some of the intangibles
MISCELLANEOUS SUGGESTIONS 1. Be genuine 2. Encourage conversation 3. Smile 4. Listen actively 5. Give positive reinforcement as well as constructive criticism 6. Go to students one at a time 7. Begin with the question “Tell me about your project”
