Yom Teruah The Day of Trumpets!
Leviticus 23:23-24 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.
Numbers 29:1 Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.
So, according to Leviticus 23 and Numbers 29, we’re supposed to blow trumpets on July 1st?
For most people in America, it is Sunday, September 9, 2018.
It used to be the seventh month on the Roman calendar, until they felt the need to add a few more months.
Calendars • Roman? • Julian? • Gregorian? • Mayan? • Chinese? • Hebrew?
Should we make up our own calendar since nobody else seems to be able to get things exact enough?
Does anybody really know what month or what day of the month it really is anyway?
We made a statement earlier that it could possibly be September 9, 2018.
In order to know what day it really is, we have to understand the phases of the moon.
After all, God gave us the sun, moon, and stars in order to know signs, seasons, and the days of the year.
Genesis 1:14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for the seasons, and for the days and years...”
Watching The Moon • New Moon Day 1 • Waxing Crescent Day 4 • First Quarter D 7/8 • Waxing Gibbous Day 12 • Full Moon Day 15
Watching The Moon • Full Moon Day 15 • Waning Gibbous Day 20 • Third Quarter Day 24 • Waning Crescent Day 28 • Dark Moon Day 31
It’s no wonder, because that is exactly what the Meeds, Persians, Greeks, and Romans were hoping might happen.
Numbers 29:1 Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.
According to our dear brothers and sisters on the other side of the world, the New Moon for the seventh month has not been spotted as of yet.
According to the Hebrew Calendar, the seventh month is known as Tishrei.
According to Hebraic tradition, several amazing events have taken place on The Day of Trumpets.
Hebraic Tradition • Creation • The Flood waters dried up. • Enoch was taken up by God. • Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah become pregnant. • Joseph was freed from prison.
Prophetically, we know that something big is going to happen on Yom Teruah.
But before we talk too much about that, does anybody know what some of the specific uses for the shofar might be?
Uses for The Shofar • It was sounded to bring Moses to the top of Mount Sinai in Exodus 19:19-20. • It was a signal during war time in Judges 3:27.
Uses for The Shofar • It was blown for the coronation of a new king in I Kings 1:34. • It was sounded as a warning for danger in Amos 3:6.
Uses for The Shofar • It will be used to regather the dispersed nation of Israel just like Isaiah 27:13. • It will sound to announce the return of our Messiah according to Zechariah 9:14.
