  1. AG Transitions: Guidance for Rising 9th Grade AG Students and their Families Presented by the AG Department: Dibrelle Tourret, Director of AG Services Dee Jordan, AG Supervisor Barry McDougald, AG Coordinator

  2. AG Service in High School • Traditional high school setting: • Rigorous course selection • Honors • Advanced Placement (AP) • International Baccalaureate (IB) • Alternative options for high-performing students: • Early Colleges • IB Programs • AP Capstone Program

  3. Early College Programs • Students complete most high school graduation requirements during their 9th and 10th grade year. • During their junior and senior year, students take college courses, on the college campus, taught by college professors. • School opportunities that foster leadership • Two programs: • The Early College at Guilford • The STEM Early College at NC A&T State University • Offers an AP Capstone Program

  4. International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs • Two-year pre-collegiate rigorous academic program - IB courses begin in11th grade. (Pre-IB 9th and 10th) • Diploma candidates complete 7 IB courses which are assessed according to international standards. • 150 Creativity, Activity and Service hours • Substantial research project • 4 GCS Sites: • Grimsley(Dudley, Northwest, Western) • High Point Central (Andrews, Southwest) • Page(Northern, Northeast, Eastern) • Smith(Southeast, Ragsdale, Southern)

AP Capstone Program • Program develops students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. • AP Capstone Certificate and Diploma • AP Seminar • AP Research • 4+ AP courses • Site: • Western Guilford High School • One of first AP Capstone schools in NC • Service Learning Diploma requirement
