  5. It is important to us that all our Readathon readers stay safe. So we advise that you only ask friends and relatives to sponsor you. Do not approach strangers or knock on doors. Your sponsors don’t need to live near, a phone call to your grandparents can be productive! Remember that the more sponsors you get the more money can go to support children with serious illnesses. Readathon money is not spent on research, and certainly not on animal experiments. It all goes to help down’s syndrome association. Readathon money helps children, teenagers, mums and dads with home help, transport to visit hospital, household costs, wheelchairs, special holidays, special nurses, special social workers, in fact anything that will help. And last, but not least, remember that reading should be enjoyable. It can give you so much enjoyment, understanding and power throughout your whole lives. So go on, pick up a book in a good cause!

  12. Task& Rules You are to research a winter celebration from anywhere in the world. For the enterprise part, you must create a saleable card for your chosen celebration. You should attempt to research a celebration that is not one you celebrate yourself. Your work should be presented as a PowerPoint presentation or on paper. You should use the Internet for research and include a record of which sites you used for your research. You need to include at least the following information: The name of the celebration. Who in the world celebrates it. The history of the celebration. The meaning of the celebration (what is being celebrated and why). Traditions surrounding the celebration. Traditional recipes from the celebration.

  13. A good entry will have…… Remember! Not everywhere in the world is cold in winter. In some countries, winter is hotter than our summer! A clear title. Information about who takes part in the celebration. Lots of information about where in the world it is celebrated and why. Lots of information about the traditions and food of the celebration. Plenty of graphics. A list of web addresses saying where you got the information. A card designed for the celebration which is of a good enough standard to be commercially produced and sold. Your card can be created in any program you wish or made by hand.
