The Purpose of a CV • The purpose of the CV is to: • interest a committee in interviewing you • detail all your academic credentials and professional accomplishments and; • serve as a tool for seeking faculty jobs as well as for applying for academic postdoctoral research opportunities, grants and fellowships.
Timeline for Developing a CV • First, review all your qualifications and list everything you might include. • Second, target the jobs you want to apply to and the kinds of institutions that interest you. • Third, examine the job announcement and note the requirements the hiring institution is seeking. • Lastly, have your CV critiqued by your advisor, PI or committee members and make at least one more draft before you produce the final version.
