Steps in preparing a CV: • Gather all the information you need. • Check with a friend if you missed any key achievements. • Look at examples of cv layouts. • Ask somebody for a second opinion, then alter if necessary. • Type it or have it typed. • Proof read the typed CV.
Make sure your CV: • Does justice to your skills, abilities and qualifications • Is easy to follow • Clearly shows you meet the requirements of the job • Uses language you're comfortable with when talking about yourself • Shows you have researched the employer thoroughly.
Questions You Can Ask Yourself: • Is the layout simple and clear? • Are there any typing errors? • Is it factually accurate? • Is the writing style concise and direct? • Does it have KEY achievements rather than everything you’ve ever done? • Is it one or two pages of length?
Reasons for CV Rejection • Poor visual layout • Grammar mistakes • Overwritten paragraphs • CV too long
What should I bear in mind? Don’t overwrite your CV • Check the layout (plenty of white space) • Use short sentences • Give only the information that is relevant to the employer
What else should I bear in mind? • First impressions matter! • Check the CV for spelling and grammar mistakes • Always print out your CV (unless required otherwise)
