  10. Friends Pics Home Achievements Bio Profile Family My Life A Lucky Break! About 1250 BCE, the Pharaoh, decided that there were too many Hebrew slaves and that they might be a threat. To reduce their number he ordered that all Hebrew- boys should be killed. Moses’ mother, wanted to protect her son. Yocheved hid Moses for three months, and when she could no longer hide him, she put him in a little ark (water tight basket) and placed it on the river where Pharaoh’s daughter bathed. The basket, with the baby inside, was discovered by the Pharaoh’s daughter. The Bible tells us that she adopted the baby and called him Moses- the name Moses means taken out of the water. Moses was brought up in the Pharaoh’s household. At the suggestion of Moses’s sister Miriam, Pharaoh’s daughter hired Yocheved to nurse Moses until he was weaned (Ex. 2:7-10). Yocheved instilled in Moses a knowledge of his heritage and a love of his people. It broke mum’s heart having to let me go.
