    1. Future Seekers: Career Awareness Project for At-Risk Eighth-Graders (Students of Promise)

    2. GOAL * Students stay in school, graduate, achieve educational and career goals.

    4. PARTNERSHIP Fayetteville Technical Community College and Ramsey Street Alternative Middle School

    5. PURPOSE * Bring 24 eighth-graders to FTCC campus to experience hands-on career-oriented presentations.

    6. CAREER AREAS January 28th Science Department (chemistry/physics) Art Department Culinary Arts (Etiquette Lunch) February 25th Emergency Medical Science Physical Therapist Assistant Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

    7. March 25th Criminal Justice Advertising and Graphic Design Welding April 29th Horticulture Automotive Technology Career Center

    8. GRADUATION In April, a graduation ceremony for those students that complete the program. Follow-up with students who left Ramsey Street to assess their progress toward clarifying career and educational goals.

    9. INCENTIVE Students that graduate from high school with a 2.50 GPA or higher will be eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship at FTCC. Negotiations are in place to raise the scholarships amount.

    10. Program Expansion Reunion Summer Camp Family Day Resource Network

    11. Reunion First reunion was held in December 2003 21 Future Seeker graduates attended. Parents, grandparents, principals and CCS Administrators attended and gave remarks. Representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid and the Learning Communities provided information.

    12. Future Seeker Summer Camp In June 2004 the first Future Seekers’ Summer Camp was held at FTCC. All Future Seekers were invited to attend. Two day camps from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Currently in the planning stages of the next camp

Tentative Day 1 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – Arrival and sign-in (light breakfast) 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Discover your Career 10:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.- Break 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. – How to take notes 11:15 to 12 noon – Stress Management Workshop 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. – Lunch 12:30 p.m. Departure

    14. Tentative Day 2 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – Arrival/sign-in (light breakfast) 9:00 to 10:30 Arts/Craft activity 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Break 10:45 a.m. to 12 noon – Continue Activity 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. – Lunch 12:30 - Departure

    15. Wish List for Summer Camp Each student would receive a Summer Camp T-shirt Each student would receive a book for summer reading “The Pact”

    16. Goal The annual reunion and summer camp will offer support and camaraderie among students. At future camps the seniors will work as mentors to the new members of Future Seekers Student are able to support system and pact to stay in school and graduate.

    17. Opportunities Increase and expand the role of the county schools to allow easier access to students at the high school level. Expand funding resources Encourage spiritual growth Invite Students to FTCC activities
