Tax Collector’s Sworn Deputy Program
Purpose • Assist Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies by: • Identifying and Apprehending Wanted Criminals • Identifying Immigration Violators • Tracking Known Terrorist Affiliates • Identifying Missing Persons • Verifying Registered Sex Offenders’ Addresses • Enforcing Driver License violations 8/8/2014 2
Purpose • Helping keep the community safe • Helping to bring justice to the victims of crime • Provide much needed security for the office 8/8/2014 3
Process A Customer Service Representative (CSR) obtains the customers Driver License # (DL, DMV and H/F transactions) and immediately submits the DL # and status to the Deputy via an interoffice messaging system. 8/8/2014 4
Process The Deputy utilizes systems such as • N.C.I.C. (Federal) • D.A.V.I.D (State) • LInX (Regional) to determine if the customer has warrants as well as verifies that their license is valid or suspended. 8/8/2014 5
Process As soon as the CSR determines whether a suspension will be cleared or not, the CSR messages that license status to Deputy. 8/8/2014 6
Process If a customer with a suspended DL is not able to clear the suspension, the CSR will issue a sanction report with a red ink stamp on every page so that there is no question regarding their driving status. 8/8/2014 7
Process If the customer drives a motor vehicle after receiving the sanction report with the “red ink stamp”, the Deputy has probable cause to perform a traffic stop on the customer’s vehicle. 8/8/2014 8
Process The Deputy uses his discretion to either arrest, issue a citation or issue a court summons, depending on the circumstance. 8/8/2014 9
Process If a customer has an active arrest warrant, the Deputy makes contact with the customer and an arrest is made outside the building away from other citizens. 8/8/2014 10
