  3. Ontario Invasive Plant Council A non-profit group made up of various agencies working together to create greater awareness and a coordinated effort against the threat of invasive plants. Agencies include: stewardship networks, conservation authorities, academic institutions, private consultants, industry, First Nations, other environmental NGO’s as well as all levels of government

Ontario Invasive Plant Council • Started in 2007, where a number of concerned individuals and organizational representatives committed to form the OIPC. • Since then the Interim Board has been working to establish the processes of the council, find funding sources, developing key contacts and working on moving forward to attain the goals and objectives set out by the Council from the beginning. • The OIPC is currently housed at the OFAH, who provide the OIPC with office space and administrative support.

  5. The OIPC The OIPC is an organization that focuses on coordinating efforts against invasive plants. Interim board oversees the council and it’s activities. There are three committees which work on the goals and objectives of the council.

The committees • Policy: Policies and procedures that concern or affect the council. • Research and Control: Research and control of invasive plants by species, project or specific problem. • Communications: Communication and outreach on invasive plants and the council. Three sub-committees • Media: public service announcements, newspapers, radio, campaigns…etc • Website: developing and updating the website. • Education: compiling educational information on invasive plants.

  7. What OIPC has done 3 Annual General Meetings in association with invasive plant symposiums. Invasive plant workshop with Victoria Land & Water Stewardship Council, OFAH and OMNR held a workshop for landowners on controlling invasive plants and field guide.

  9. What OIPC has done Information dispersal: Continue to send monthly updates to the members of our large distribution list. Collaboration: Working with provincial councils and government agencies to help in the development of an EDRR plan for Canada. National Invasive Species Council Working Group: Working group with representatives from each Province working to increase collaboration across the Country. Midwest Invasive Plant Network representatives from various states and Ontario. New Release: Kudzu

  10. OIPC Support • Secure funding. • Environment Canada’s Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program. • Received funding from the OMNR’s Invasive Species Centre Partnership Fund. • Donations from Hydro One Inc. • Membership Funds.

  13. Call for nominations Elections are to be held in January/February. Call for Nominations of Members At Large. @ofah.org Elections will be held through an online voting system Must be a paying member to partake in the elections.

  14. Photo Contest The OIPC will be holding its first annual photo contest. We are looking for photos in the following categories: Invasive plants Invasive plant control Invasive plant outreach Finalists will be showcased and voted on at next years AGM where we will present the winners with a prize. Details to be posted online.

  16. To show your support OIPC Membership You can become an official member for an annual fee of just $15. Membership forms can be found online at www.ontarioinvasiveplants.ca. Join a Committee Policy, Communications or Research/Control. Get Added to the Distribution List Monthly newsletters on council activities, invasive plant news and information such as: upcoming workshops, conferences, new research, new sightings and employment opportunities.
