  1. 7 topics • Exotic nuclei • Neutrinos / low level radioactivities • Astroparticles – GLAST • Nuclear excitations via lasers • Interface physics-biology • Nuclear waste and energy for the futur • Theory • 2 platforms AIFIRA anf PRISNA • Technogical transfer department • 38 permanent researchers 37 permanent engineers and technicians 20 PhDs, post-docs and visitors ACTAR Bordeaux 16-18/06/08

  2. GLAST Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope 10 MeV-300 GeV • A collaboration between the USA, Italy, France, Japan, and Sweden. • Launch: 11 june 2008 (NASA) • Activities at the CENBG: • Calorimeter calibrations • Simulation improvements • Developing analysis tools • Pulsar ephemeredes database

  3. Ion beam analysis Back scattered particles Sample beam : p, d, 4He Transmitted particles X Rays Particles and photons from nuclear reactions

  4. Ion beam Lens Sample Detectors 2D map on computer Nuclear microscopy Map array Y Scanning system X

  5. Micro and nanometer beam lines

  6. En ~ 0.1 - 0.5 MeV En ~ 0.5 - 2.0 MeV En ~ 2 - 7 MeV p + 7Li p + t d + d Monoenergetic neutron beams Fission fragments Target Sample Neutrons Proton or deuteron beam Photons Φ ~106 n/s.cm2

  7. With this new accelerator • Intense low energy ion beams ( 0.5 to 3.5 MeV ) • Spatial resolutions from a few mm to  50 nanometers Unique plateforme in France for ion beam analysis and characterization techniques in: • Environment • Radiobiology, Dermatology, Pharmacology • New materials • Archaeometry • Micro-electronics • Nuclear waste transmutation, New fuel cycles

  8. PRISNA: Plateforme Régionale Interdisciplinaire de Spectrométrie Nucléaireen Aquitaine June 2009

  9. From neutrino to wine… To minimize the intrinsic radioctivity of the detector, all materials have been selected usinggermanium photon detectors of very low level natural radioactivity With such detectors : measurement of 137Cs in wine Activity 137Cs (mBq/l) Nuclear fallout Tchernobyl Activity137Cs  year

  10. Bordeaux 1964 Bordeaux 2003 Bourgogne 1934 Presence of 137Cs in the Bourgogne bottle ! Not 1934 but later then 1950 (activity ~100 mBq/l)
