Reading and spelling words with more than 2 syllables is EASY!!! • We can still divide these words into smaller parts/syllables to make them easier to read and write! snap drag on
We use the same rules in words with more than 2 syllables! • Rule #1 (Sub step 3.1) • Divide between 2 consonants. • * napkin • * traffic
Rule#2 (Sub step 3.1) • For now, when there is only 1 consonant, that consonant is needed to close in the first syllable. • * relish • * habit
Rule#3 (Sub step 3.1) • With 3 consonants between 2 vowels, including a diagraph, the diagraph stays together. • * bathtub • * nutshell
Rule #4 (Sub step 3.2) • If there are 3 consonants between vowels (without a diagraph) the blend stays together. • * impress • * ostrich
Rule #5 (Sub step 3.2) • If a blend can be made in both directions, almost always, the blend goes with the 2nd syllable. • * mattress • * hundred
Rule#6 (Sub step 3.2) • With 4 consonants, it will split between them. • * gangplank • * handclasp
