  3. Clouds • Not only block sunlight for a building, they diffuse it • Changes distribution of incoming light in a space • Clear • Uniform • Overcast (typically used for design criteria, near the equator uniform may be better)

  4. Solar Radiation • Sun’s intensity often called “insolation” (INcidentSOLarradiATION) • Direct radiation • Diffuse radiation • Cloudy sky reduces direct beam radiation but increases diffuse sky radiation

  5. Solar Radiation • Directly heats the building, also creates hotter weather and affects humidity
