  1. Recount Text

  2. What is a recount text? • Recount text is a text that is used to inform or report such events happening in the past.

  3. What is the aim of a recount text? • Recount text is used to give such information or to entertain the readers.

  4. Generic structure of a recount text • Orientation Orientation is the introduction telling who, when, and where relating to the story. • Events The chronological events that happen in sequence relating to the story. • Re-orientation The closing of the story.

  5. Tenses used in a recount text • A recount text simply uses Simple Past Tense since it tells us all about past activities. • Talking about the past, we must use the Simple Past Tense which pattern is: S + V2 + O + (Adv.)

  6. Example: • Orientation: Last week, I joined Cambridge National Examination (CIE) which was at Surabaya. I took English as a Second Language with the level of IGCSE. I joined the CIE with my friends from all over Malang.

  7. Events: 1. Before going to Surabaya, we prepared for the materials together. 2. We took a private English course to enrich our knowledge relating to the Cambridge curriculum. 3. My friends and I studied together to deepen our understanding through English.

  8. Re-orientation: When we were already at the place, we did the test quite well since we have studied hard to understand all of the materials.
