CAREER: An Integrated Research and Education Program for Engineering Functional Block Copolymers Yueh-Lin (Lynn) Loo, University of Texas at Austin Grant No.: DMR-0348339; Program Director: Dr. Andrew Lovinger Preparation and characterization of compositionally uniform hydrogel materials with narrow molecular weight distribution Polymerizations are controlled with predictable molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions: Block copolymers with polystyrene spontaneously self assemble to form periodic structures: By polymerizing at the compositional azeotrope, we are able to make statistical copolymers of poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) of uniform compositions and narrow molecular weight distributions. When polymerized from a polystyrene macroinitiator, the resulting diblock copolymers spontaneously self assemble to form periodic nanostructures (Guice and Loo, Macromolecules, 39, 2474, 2006).
