  2. Introduction Imagine sketching a new car or toy or house hold appliance. Then having that made and distributed world wide. That is the job of an industrial designer. I got interested when I learned that they sketch new ideas then have it made real. I have always loved drawing and coming up with new ideas. That is why I think I would be good for this job. Also having to use a computer software to design the project would be fun. Then being able to see my product being used would make me feel great. I will research the nature of work, working conditions, training, qualifications, job outlook, employment, earnings, and occupations related to an industrial engineer to really understand my choice in a career.

Nature Of Work • Research who will use the product and the various ways it might be used • Sketch out ideas or create blueprints • Use computer software to develop virtual models of different designs • Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine if a design is practical • Present designs and demonstrate prototypes to clients for approval

  4. Working Conditions • Physical and mental - Think up a design and physically draw it out. • Indoor - Industrial designers work in offices • Hours - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Work environment - Work spaces are often drafting boards for sketching. Meeting rooms to meet with colleagues and clients. Mainly they work in offices. • Travel to –Testing facilities – Design centers – Clients exhibit sites – Users homes and workplaces – Place where the product is being manufactured.

  5. Training, Qualifications, Advancements • Bachelors degree • No work experience • No on job training • Take Intro Draft/CADD and CADD in high school • Attend college to obtain bachelor in industrial design • Drawing ability • Computer smarts

  6. Job Outlook/Employment • Expected growth is average • Most entry requires bachelors degree • only about 29 percent are employed directly by manufacturers

  9. Summary I feel like this would be a great job for me. I love to draw things out, and with this I could see them made real. Plus I’m pretty good with coming up with new ideas. I would need a bachelors degree in industrial design to obtain this job. With my determination I know I’ll be able to get a job in this field.
