Conclusions • HD will test the 2 hole tong US soldering • NIKHEF will test the eye-let tong • Cut straws shorter keep tolerance to minimum length • Tong = 3mm in width (was 2mm) • Gastight gluing end-block/straw in small template • Orientate middle block in panel template • Glue end-blocks to pcb in template first with extra tool • No glue between endblocks • Bubble glue two layers of end blocks during assembly • Avoid glue on soldering pads • Edge of pvc strip shorter • Kapton teflon strip in groove
Observations: • Straws just fit tight in template in length • Gluing of end block in straw in large template takes more time • Capillary effect of glue moves the straws • Grouping of end blocks • 5 – 10 blocks without clearance + large clearance • Straw moves out the template • Vacuum test with NIKHEF pomp showed not enough pressing to hold straws in place • Fitting of dowel pins need attention • Avoid glue on soldering pads: *Edge of pvc strip shorter • Kapton teflon strip in groove to avoid glue dripping in • Ultra sonic soldering on both side of tong with 2 holes • Soldering contact strips in groups of 8 on pcb
