Types of wounds • Diabetic neuropathic • Venous stasis • Ischemic • Pressure • Miscellaneous
Diabetic neuropathic ulcers • Neuropathy is the loss of sensation due to the effects of the diabetes.
Methods of Treatment • Offload the area of the ulceration. • Removal of callus and debride the wounds. • Prevention of new ulcerations.
Venous stasis ulcers • Loss of the integrity of the venous system causes chronic swelling or edema in the legs.
Control the edema Massage therapy Prevent new ulcerations with compressive stockings. Methods of treatment
Ischemic ulcerations • Peripheral Vascular Disease • Usually a gradual process. • Can also be from a sudden event.
Caused by a low-pressure over a long period of time. Tends to happen where there are sharp curvatures in bony structures. Pressure ulcers
