Small (10 kW) • Homes • Farms • Remote Application • Intermediate • (10-250 kW) • Village Power • Hybrid Systems • Distributed Power • Large (660 kW - 2+MW) • Central Station Wind Farms • Distributed Power • Community Wind Wind Power – Various Levels
National Summary • Industry continues to grow – though challenged • 2011 installations brought cumulative installed capacity in US to 46,916 MW • US no longer world leader in installed capacity • 1,695 MW installed in 1st Q 2012 • 788 total turbines with average rated capacity of 2.15MW, 11 different turbine manufacturers • 8,900 MW is under construction • Some of this will slip to 2013 • 4th Q usually strongest as projects come online by end of year • Rush to meet PTC deadline

State Policy • Majority of national leaders in wind development attained it with progressive policies • Renewable Energy Portfolio standards • Oklahoma home to a Renewable Energy Goal • 15% renewable energy by 2015 • Energy efficiency included as a component towards goal
Oklahoma’s Wind Statistics • Oklahoma boasts 8th best wind resource in nation • Twice wind resource potential per square mile of Texas • Conservative estimates show potential of 13,000 MW of installations • Estimates as high as 40,000 MW of potential • Home to 20 operational wind projects for total of 2,321 MW • 1,265 turbines across 8 different manufacturers • 5 projects currently under construction for 871 MW • Projected to be 15% of in state generation by end of 2012
Oklahoma’s Future in Wind • DOE 20% Report shows OK projected to be home to 38,000 MW of wind power • More likely case closer to 10,000 MW – 15,000 MW • Large growth will mean exporting OK wind power across state lines • Chisholm View going to Alabama Power Company • Long haul DC Transmission line • Would carry 7,000 MW to TN
Economic Development • General estimates are $1.5 million/MW installed • National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) created a Jobs and Economic Development Impacts model (JEDI) • Takes generalized industry estimates for jobs, landowner lease payments and construction and operational impacts • Users can use industry estimates or customize with actual local data • JEDI estimates for current Oklahoma wind projects • ~$1 billion for operational expenses • ~$4 billion in total project capital investment • Some actual estimates from Keenan II wind farm • Sharon/Mutual school district - $579,227 • Fargo School District - $288,827 • Career Tech - $227,601 • County General - $189,849 • EMS: $56,991 • County Health - $19,058 • 4 mill school - $75,867
