Syllabus/Policy Reminders and Updates 2nd semester
Students will attend class on time and consistently. You are graded on effort and participation, among other things. You cannot participate if you are not there.
Each student is to be in his/her assigned seat for roll and instructions before the tardy bell rings. Those who are not will be marked tardy and will be punished according to school/ classroom outlined consequences. • 1st, 3rd, 5th & 6th will be • sent to tardy sweep • 2nd and 4th will get • detentions or referrals
During lectures you are expected to be respectful and give me your undivided attention. If you have headphones in, they will be confiscated… That means you are quiet… Not Talking… Paying attention!
During class students WILL remain in their assigned seat and be on task for • the entire class period. Talking during independent work time is limited to discussing art problems and solutions for assignments with your team or myself.
No cell phones allowed in class. They will be confiscated. You can serve a Saturday school to get it back. • IPods with headphones may be allowed during independent work times ONLY, and at the teacher’s discretion. Both talking and IPod privileges may be revoked at any time. Do not misuse or abuse these privileges.
REVISED POLICY: Music devices need to be put away. Many people listen to music via their cell phone, and school policy states that cell phones are not to be seen. To compromise- you can still listen to your music during non-lecture times only, BUT you need to have the phone/ ipod in your pocket or backpack; UNSEEN. If I see it, it will be confiscated.
You need to get permission from me to use a phone to look up pictures for a project. I may say no, but if it is an appropriate time and a justified reason (for the project at hand) then it is usually ok. BUT you MUST get my permission first.
Late work will automatically drop 10% after the due date. At the point where 2 weeks has passed after the due date, work will no longer be accepted and the grade for that project will be a “0”. Make up work for EXCUSED absences is accepted at full value for the amount of days excused. Make up work is not allowed for unexcused absences or truancies. • Open communication with the teacher is ESSENTIAL in this, come talk to me if you are having trouble. It is helpful when turning in late work, to write on it “Absent” and tell me the date(s) you were absent
If you are absent, talk to your table group about what you have missed first. Many times they can fill you in. If you need further clarification, a handout, etc. come see me during an appropriate time.
Appropriate times to come talk to me: • After school • During independent work time • Immediately after class Approaching me at my desk: Don’t just come up and start talking to me. Wait to be acknowledged, I may be in the middle of something and you may have to wait a minute. • Inappropriate times to come talk to me: • Before class • During a lecture • When I am helping another student Academic detentions will be implemented for those who will not help themselves. Also on Wednesdays after school. If you need extra help outside class, or need to make up work you need to come Wednesdays after school.
No food or drink allowed in class. You may have a water bottle, but that is it. Any other food or drink brought in will be immediately taken and thrown away… or consumed by the teacher if she is hungry.
Students are expected to CLEAN UP after themselves and leave the classroom as they found it, or better. If this is not done it WILL affect your grade and result in disciplinary action.
Art fee: You still need to pay your $10 art fee, and you can still get 5 extra credit points for doing so. You still get a drawing kit. You don’t get to take your artwork home if you haven’t paid the fee. ** If your Art kit need replenishing, there are some supplies for sale individually.
It is your job to pay attention. If you choose not to listen that is your fault. You will need to figure things out on your own from there. It is your job to work in class the entire time, do your best, and turn in your work on time. Pay attention, follow the directions/routines, think for yourself - use you brain!
