Catholicism • Different in each country. • SpanishCatholicism was oppressive • French was a figurehead • Italian was looser and helped renaissance • Portugal’s was waning
Anglicanism • Was basically Catholicism with a King Henry twist
Protestantism • Began by Martin Luther and his 95 Theses • Also included Calvinism and others
Islam • Began with Muhammad • Based in Mecca • Grew in strength with the Ottoman Empire
Eastern Orthodox • Had split from the Catholic church because of the Pope • Differences in practices and services carried out
Hebrew • Hebrews, descendents of the original twelve tribes of Israel • Jesus is not God’s son
El Dorado • Voltaire’s ideal religion • Everyone is a priest • Only give thanks
Connections to Candide • Catholicism is not the best, but is respected • Islam is a barbaric religion • Anglicanism is to be looked down upon • Fight between Catholics and Orthodoxians is flawed • Protestants have it closest
