Checklist for today’s meeting • Introduction about the trip provider • Understand the aim and itinerary / service programme • Lodge the website (password) • Packing list • Behavior contact • Medical form (no need to apply on line)/ T-shirt size • Pair up for homestay and hotel room • Start thinking how you can contribute to the service programme (form 3 – 4 groups)

  4. Rustic Pathways is a 32-year-old organization that specializes in Community Service, Language Immersion, Life Skills, and Adventure programs for high school students.

  13. Days 1-2 • Welcome to Nasivikoso! • Meet Villagers and get to know your host families • Learn about Village School Committee and current service initiatives in the school • Take part in traditional kava ceremony

  14. Days 3-4 • The next two days will be full days of service work on our Village Education Project. You will be supporting the ongoing project and students may assist in a variety of ways each day. Some studentsmay be involved with manual labour such as simple building, paving, cementing or painting. Those who are less inclined to the physical work will have the opportunity to develop educational resources, or design activities and games for the children of the village.

  15. Day 5-6 • Head to Pacific Harbour • Hike the unique Sigatoka Sand Dunes, where four miles of windswept mountains of sand unfold along the coast. • Spend the afternoon playing beach volleyball, relaxing by the pool, or kayaking. Stroll down the beach at sunset and start to feel at home on the Pacific Harbour Coast. • Zip Line - high ropes course offers excitement as well as a rewarding team-building experience for you and your group.

  16. Day 8 • Hop aboard the Yasawa Flyer again and transfer back to Nadi. After a late dinner at the marina it’s time to head to the airport, check in for your flight, and make the long journey home.

Housing / Pack list ( refer to website) Local host families need to respect the below rules: • Strong relationship with host families • Host families go through intensive background checks and follow strict Rustic Pathways guidance, assuring: • Clean place and toilet near the house • No unknown visitors while hosting students • Students must stay in pairs (same sex) with host families • Students are never alone in a room with a member of the opposite sex • Students must be in bed by 10:00 pm • No inappropriate jokes • If student is sick, Rustic Pathways staff needs to be informed immediately • Accommodating strict dietary concerns, or in the case that this is not possible, appropriate measures are taken by the Country Director to ensure meal satisfaction.

Extras to think about… • Petty cash - spending money • Ipod (for long journey bus) / mp3 player • Cell phone (for contact home only/ will be kept by teachers) • Camera • Some presents / donations (primary level picture books, color pens, stationeries, educational games for children clothes/ flip-flop…for villagers) • Extra money for donations

Thing to be done • Room arrangement • 2 per homestay / hotel room (same sex) • Read, sign and return Behavior contract (to Ms. Yeung / Mr. Shire) • Read, sign and return Medical form (if possible return by parents on tomorrow’s parent meeting, or by 30thSeptember, 2014 attentions to Ms. Yeung /Mr. Shire through 7th floor Dropbox) • T-shirt size (XS, S, M, L, XL) • Think about how can you contribute in the community service (3-6 people per groups) Activity groups / service group Will be assigned by teachers and organize while in Fiji
