They live amidst many adults who do more harm to them than good. Unfortunately, during such impressionable years, children need to grow and learn. But the reality is quite the opposite of that. There are many ways through which children end up in the wrong company or take up illegal and harmful jobs to earn a basic and minimum wage. Help Status Writers Blog Careers Privacy Terms About Knowable Many people engage children living on the streets into child labour. The children work as domestic help where they are illegally employed as nannies or given the task of cleaning and scrubbing the house. Some children even wash cars or are given tasks as a helper for community work of gardening,
road sweeping etc. Some children even join varied gangs and get involved in violence like pickpocketing, harassment, prostitution etc. Other street children work in factories related to tobacco, bricks and other such areas where they work long and tiring hours with little or no safety at all. These hazardous areas of work are quite harmful to the psychological as well as the physical well-being of the children. Such jobs, at an early age, can also diminish the chances of children growing up to work at reputed offices or safe, productive, and prosperous areas of work. Many children can be seen on the streets begging for money or food. They are employed at traffic signals to beg which is not only degrading for their self- respect but also forces them to ask instead of earn. This can be quite humiliating and deprecating for a child’s mental health. Neglect is a major issue for underprivileged children. All of the bullying and the constant vulnerability can be overwhelming for a child.
