22nd All India Medical Awareness Camp 13th & 14th March at Jodhpur Introduction of IAMD IAMD stands for those, who are affected with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and severe disabilities. It is an organization, which is run by muscular dystrophy affected persons (wheel chair bound) and families. IAMD takes up various projects like:- 1. JAGRITI 2. WINGS 3. SATHI 4. SAHARA 5. GURUKUL Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy is a support group that enables people with neuromuscular disorders, their families, friends, and any other interested parties to get together for the purpose of supporting each other. This group meets regularly, in person or by teleconference. Participants brain storm about issues that some of them may have faced and look for solutions to common concerns. • IAMD support group is to provide support through group interaction, as they ‘members’ themselves are living with this cruel neuromuscular disorder. IAMD organized 20th National Medical awareness camp on 5th & 6th April 2009 in Jaipur. The camp was focused on providing medical awareness, latest update about the cure and prevention (Until the cure is there) with best doctor working for the cause and cure of muscular dystrophy. Venue The Venue of Camp was FUN WORLD RESORT, Chaupasni Road, Jodhpur. It is beautifully Water park located mid of the city of Surya Nagari. It was only place in Jodhpur which was totally accessible for our MD people with fully AC room on Ground Floor. The children was enjoyed there in Children Park and Mughal Garden. The arrangement were made for more than 150 persons with MD and their parents. In total more than 300 people attended the camp were lodging, boarding, arrangement made for them at stop and stay in Resort. It was perhaps the most accessible venue ever for the camp after all Camp. A beautiful Hall was provided for all the functions and separate facility with all arrangement for all sessions and food also. The wheel chairs were available for all participants.
22nd All India Medical Awareness Camp 13th & 14th March at Jodhpur • IAMD assists families wherever possible. The aim is to bring about some change in the overall development and to guide them to live with dignity in the society and be self reliant. We associate with other National and International Organizations to update our knowledge and to provide best possible help to the MD sufferers and also to bring about policy changes. Programs of Camp The Camp started at 9 AM on 13th March Saturday with the registration of participants. This counter was attended by Mr. Amit, Ms. Deepti, Ms. Mona, Mr. Tarun, Mr. Vasudevan and Mr. Naveen, who is an expert and guide all of them. In total 84 participant were registered with Muscular Dystrophy affected, very few were affected with multiple disabilities because through media we clarify that this camp was for Muscular Dystrophy. Mr. AtulGoel, Mr. Amandeep and Ms. Alka was welcoming the participants with full of joy and energy in Hot climate. Ms. Alka, Mr. Amandeep Ms. Deepti Mr. Tarun, Ms.Mona, Mr. Naveen After Breakfast session was started by Dr. Sumit Singh, Neuro Physician AIIMS, New Delhi. He delivered his lecture the help of slide show to throw light upon progress of Stem Cell Therapy research and rays of hope for cure of Muscular Dystrophy by this emerging method.. At present, this is the only ray of hope for treatment of Muscular Dystrophy, which is incurable, so far all over the world. He gave individual counseling to each and every participant. He referred cases for further DNA testing and Genetic counseling . The session had open interaction in which MD affected individuals and their parents put many questions to Dr. Sumit Singh. Physiotherapy Lab Genetic counseling was done by Dr. Ved Raj Soni, Jodhpur. He was very inspired to see them physically attending the patients. Dr. Sumit Singh General Physiotherapy
22nd All India Medical Awareness Camp Physiotherapy is most important for proper management of patients to prolong the progress of disease and to keep them healthy and active to the best possible level. Dr. Kavitasharma Dr. CharuKhatri, Dr. D.D Purohit, Dr. MukeshVyas and his team provided valuable physiotherapy guidance to affected person and parents. Till date, 21 successful camps in various parts of the country like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, NewDelhi, Haryana, Punjab, UT, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh have been organized. Now we have done it again in Rajasthan on 13th & 14th March 2010 at Jodhpur. In these camps barriers of cast, creed, age and physical limitations are overcome. Through this social interaction people with neuromuscular disorders can participate fully in all aspects of daily and community living. Physiotherapy is most important for proper management of patients to prolong the progress of disease and to keep them healthy and active to the best possible level. Dr. Rajesh Dadhichi from Jodhpur took blood samples of participants. He continuously took samples for the both days. The yoga specialist were held with the help of members of ART OF LIVING. They taught Yoga and Meditation to all the participants individually. • And then Next morning he again took the Yoga and Meditation session. Participants learned all the techniques and themselves experienced how it helps in re-energizing mind and body after day’s fatigue, how it gives energy for the whole day’s work. • After practice session, they felt re-energized and peaceful within. They were also explained how these technique help improving peace, health and happiness.
The camp was honored with most important session Chief Guest Smt. ChandreshKumari, MP Jodhpur. The Guest of Honour was renowned person HH Maharaja Gaj Singh ji, Maharaja of Jodhpur. They send their well wishes to all of them. All necessary arrangements of entertainment were there. The Rajasthan famous “Kalbelia Dance’ was arranged there for entertainment on first day. A Musical System was arranged. All participants along with their parents and volunteers had great fun by doing wheel chair dance on DJ Music. No one was left alone and after initial hesitation, everyone fully enjoyed it. A complete section on law related with the legal rights and privileges for the disabled was organization. It was hosted Mr. Rajesh Singa. It was a very informative session for the participants and proved quite important for the general awareness of parents as well as their patients. Apart from above, during different sessions and free time, participants were encouraged to sing, recite poems, share experiences and tell jokes One of the good part of this camp was the good arrangement of Magician from Hyderabad for the children while their parents attend the camp. Carom was also arranged and children enjoyed it a lot. On the morning of second day the Meditation and Yoga sessions were held with the help of “The Art Of Living” teacher . Participants learned meditation and yoga techniques and themselves experienced how it helps in re-energizing mind and body after day’s fatigue, how it gives energy for the whole day’s work. After practice session, they felt re-energized and peaceful within. They were also explained how these technique help improving peace, health and happiness. Special Thanks to Mr. Yuvraj, who is by profession a Pilot and came first time as a volunteer and helped so much and got Best Volunteer Award. Ms. Nishtha, who is handling Gujarat region and got the Best Chapter Head Award. Mr. Atul Guru , Dr. PoojaRana, Mr. Ajay Rana and Mr. Naveen handled whole camp with full of dedication and energy. Mr. Ramdev driver also helped with one more colleague. Mrs. UshaMam, Mr. VipulGoyal, Mr. Atul Goyal has handled to Parents, children and function and program arrangement.
