  1. Please pray with us for God’s blessings on this year’s projects. And please give generously to work bringing justice, joy and a better future for people across the world, such as Amparo Jimenez in the Dominican Republic. The next slides give a snapshot of the seven projects we are supporting this year through the Poverty and Hope Appeal.

  2. Lighting from biogas gets 10 out of 10 in Cambodia Using biogas for cooking and light in the house and in Su Ith’s shop saves her time and money. Thanks to Christian Aid’s partner Life With Dignity in Cambodia, her daughter Thol Kanha, 10 (left), no longer has to go out after school every day to collect firewood and can study longer at night. As a result her grades have jumped from 7/10 to 10/10! Christian Aid/Amanda Farrant

  3. Adapting to climate change in the Dominican Republic Amparo Jimenez is part of the association that tends the plot of land where her community grow crops such as cocoa, coffee and fruit trees. Through Christian Aid, we are supporting their partner Solidaridad Fronteriza, which has helped them improve the way they farm. Their nursery has been able to increase its productivity, despite the impacts of climate change. Christian Aid/Susan Barry

Multiplying the message in South Sudan Having been helped by Christian Aid’s partner HARD to increase his own crop yields, John Koru Agang is keen to ensure other members of the community benefit from his knowledge. Now he trains other community members in the skills he has learnt and even travels to other farms with his own plough to give hands-on demonstrations of how to use it.   5. Supporting families in Brazil Rafael (centre) was living on the streets of a slum in northeast Brazil, on the run from a gang’s death threats and addicted to solvents. The My Father’s House project, supported by CMS, has helped him and his uncle’s family. He now lives with them, having overcome his addiction and also having become a Christian. Andy Roberts

  6. Deepening understanding in Kent There’s no substitute for learning first hand! We are supporting Commonwork, which helps children in Kent to explore issues of poverty, injustice and climate change and to develop the knowledge, skills and values to face these global uncertainties.   7. Volunteer health workers in Myanmar (Burma) Myanmar (Burma) has one of the world’s most under-resourced healthcare systems. We are supporting the training of volunteer health workers, through USPG and the country’s Anglican Church, who are often the only source of medical care for rural communities. USPG/Rachel Parry

  8. Building peace in the occupied Palestinian territory This year’s guest project Wi’am (meaning ‘cordial relations’) works with children and schools across the West Bank, teaching them about the ways they can use peaceful means to resolve conflicts and build a better society in a region where violence and injustice has become a way of life.
