Regional projects using CHIMERE • Project IRENI(sub project 2B - action 1 - axis 1) • Modeling of reactivity and dispersion of atmospheric pollutants in the Nord pas de Calais. Industrial emissions study on the french coastal Channel area • Project INRETS • Modeling assessment of the role of vehicular emissions in the formation of tropospheric ozone and related species • Project CERPA • Mapping Aerosol Risk Indices 2005 CHIMERE Workshop
Project IRENI (Institut de Recherches en Environnement Industriel) Collaborations : PC2A (UAM and CHIMERE models) ELICO-UMR 8013 (Meso NH model) ATMO Nord Pas de Calais (air quality network) Objective : To develop a scientific strategy of environmental diagnosis and remediation of the air quality on our region • Work program : (beginning date : october 2005) • Running of the models (modeling domain, grid, time step, boundary conditions [Prev’air, Esmeralda], emission inventories, complementary measurements…) • Modeling using 3 domains (nesting) • Validation of modeling by comparison with the air quality measurements (network, field campaign, lidar …) • Inverse modeling, remediation, prediction 2005 CHIMERE Workshop
Project INRETS (Institut National de REcherches sur les Transports et leur Sécurité) Calculation of number of kilometers on the section Collaborations : PC2A and INRETS (Lyon-Bron) Aim of the work : answer to the question « What is the relative impact of vehicular emissions on the formation of tropospheric oxidants » Application of the EF (g/km)for any pollutants and any engine technology Linear emissions • Work program : (beginning date : october 2005) • Calculate the vehicules emissions with ARTEMIS model • Using an exhaustive molecular emission inventory of ozone precursors (up to 60 VOC) • Various scenarios of reduction in the emissions of VOC and/or NOx from vehicles will be considered , in order to calculated the corresponding percent of variation in O3 formation Gridded emissions Major roads of the area 2005 CHIMERE Workshop
Project CERPA (Cartographie de l’Exposition aux Risques des Populations aux Aérosols ) Collaborations : PC2A (USTL), LISE ( ULCO), HYGEOS, ATMO and APPA Aim of the work : To deliver a data base which allows to study the health impact of the particles in a given area (Nord Pas de Calais) through the production of risk indices. This project will contribute to valorise an ending INTERREG -III project (EXPER/PF) • Work program : (beginning date : october 2005) • A consolidation of the PM product as derived from the Earth Observation • A modeling of the PM generation using the CHIMERE model • A joint activity with the health autorities in order to define suitable risk index for the populations regarding exposures to particules 2005 CHIMERE Workshop
Conclusion • Future developments on CHIMERE • In order to achieve the 3 projects presented, the code will be optimized: • on one hand the chemical module : • use of explicit mechanisms • use of radiative codes or irradiance measurements for photolysis calculation • on the other hand we plan to parallelize the code in order to reach a better space resolution using a finer scale (500 m) with a convenient computer time which should make more credible to use CHIMERE as a predictive tool. 2005 CHIMERE Workshop
