  1. DEVELOPING THERMAL INSULATION CURRICULUM ACCORDING TO THE CLIMATE CONDITIONS AND PILOT PROVINCIAL APPLICATIONS

  2. AIM OFTHE PROJECT The aim of this project is making thermal insulation based on climatic conditions and the development of related curriculum. To create a general principle in thermal insulation, results and thermal insulation applications will be transferred to learning modules theoretically and practically. E-learning will be made through the web site.

  3. AIM OF THE PROJECT The most important part of the project is thermal insulation applications. Three different provinces are selected in terms of geographical location and climatic characteristics of Turkey. Thermal insulation applications will be done with different methods in cities of Sakarya, Hakkari, Gümüşhane.

  4. AIM OF THE PROJECT The data about heat losses, temperature, rainfall, etc. will be recorded daily. Heat losses will be recorded with thermal cameras and will be compared with climatic data. At the end of the project the data got from these three provinces will be analyzed in detail and lost energy depended on climate will be determined.

  5. AIM OF THE PROJECT Heat insulation curriculum will be developed according to current regulation by transferring the project results to learning modules. In the short term the project partners and engineering faculties and in the long term heat insulation sector and related institutions will be affected.

  24. Work Package 2 Description of activities. On the use of energy efficient homes has been published by the European Commission in 2010. In relation to energy efficiency in buildings TS 825 "Thermal Insulation Rules in Buildings" an advisory standard; advisory was revised and published on April 29, 1998. Afterwards, the standard is published in the official newspaper No. 23725 dated June 14, 1999 and prepared in line with this standard, with the “The Regulation’s on Heat Insulation in Buildings" be included in the Official newspaper No. 24043 dated May 8, 2000, TS 825 standards entered into force as a mandatory standard application from the date of June 14, 2000. Buildings which are constructed after June 14, 2000; should comply with the terms of this standard and regulation requirements.

  25. Work Package 2 With the "Principles of Building Control Application Procedures and Regulations” that was published in the official newspaper No. 24491 dated 12 August 2001, the control of thermal insulation applications was given to Building Inspection Authority. 2002/91/EC, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive; was completed and adopted by the European Commission in 18 May 2010. In Turkey, circulars have been issued by Buildings Energy Performance Certificates on January 1, 2011. By means of these published circulars, the thermal insulation of buildings is gathered under a disciplinary. The definition of the methods to be applied in thermal insulation has been done. The parts of the buildings in which thermal insulation will be made and with which material it will be applied is determined. The circulars issued in Turkey and Europe will be-reissued taking into account considering BASICON project outcomes.

  27. WORK PACKAGE 3

  28. Work Package 3 Description of activities The results of the project will be evaluated in climatic terms. All results will be done before our program starts, followed by a four month needs analysis. Climatic conditions in Europe and Turkey, Turkey Directorate of Meteorology data and methodological indicators will be observed numerically. the heat insulation of buildings will be measured on a monthly basis for a period of one year. Measurements will be done monthly and will be noted on taking into account of seasonal conditions. The three provinces have been selected that have deep differences in terms of geographical and climatic conditions. (Hakkari, Gümüşhane, Sakarya). Also, the mountainous terrains of the province are all very similar in all. Thus, these provinces were selected as the provinces to do the heat insulation. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  29. Work Package 3 With this purpose, the climatic values of the pilot provinces between the years 1975-2010 willbe formed and the analysis of the provinces listed below will be enacted; Analysis of temperature and precipitation conditions, > Hot and arid area analysis, > Analysis of climate zones, > Ecosystem status, > Wind discharge detection >The average temperature, average maximum temperature, minimumtemperature, > Average number of rainy days, the total average amount of rainfall, > Demographic structure > Comparison of climatic conditions in Europe Chosen by taking into consideration. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  31. WORK PACKAGE 4 www.sakarya.edu.tr

  32. Work Package 4 Description of activities In the fourth work package, previous work packages’ results will be analysed. The analysis will be prepared for the development of the curriculum. The concrete outcomes of BASICON project will be chosen as teaching techniques. Climate conditions will be added to the circulars in Europe and Turkey. However, the studies for the development of the curriculum will be finished when the implementations are completed. Also, modules will be formed for the extensification of these issues and for the addition of them to the curriculum. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  33. Work Package 4 These modules are: Module1- Main building bases in Europe Module2- Insulation Bases practiced in European Union and its sample in Turkey Module3- Europe’s climate map on the country bases and Turkey’s climate map on the province basis Module4- E-learning teaching Module5- Materials used in insulation market Module6- Insulation practices Module7- Extensification in insulation www.sakarya.edu.tr

  34. Work Package 4 Apart from these modules, other modules will be prepared according to the analysis results and learning outcomes will be gathered. These modules will be prepared according to the Basicon’s concrete outcomes. Before preparing these modules, the detection of the methodological working techniques will be made to the extensification of the module. Also the computer program that will be prepared could enable us to follow the changes in the thermal insulation practice. In this workpackage, first workshop will be made, and the practices in Germany will be observed in the country. At the end of this workpackage there will be the the evaluation of the modules and the curriculum. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  36. WORK PACKAGE 5 www.sakarya.edu.tr

  37. Work Package 5 Description of activities This work package will form substructure of the sixth workshop. The sixth work package involves heat insulation practices in pilot provinces. The direct aim of this project is to analyse the relation between climate conditions and insulation by adhering to the curriculum. The project will serve to another aim indirectly as well as this main aim. This is the education of the students who will work with insulation. Heat insulation practices will be done in Hakkari, Sakarya and Gümüşhane which are chosen as pilot provinces. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  38. Work Package5 Insulation practices in these three provinces will be done by engineering faculty students and who have basic knowledge on their field. The chosen pilot provinces are the project partners at the same time and they are with university status. The universities in each province will give education to their own students. Any problem will not be come across since educations will be web-based. They will be educated for the practices in their own province and will be certificated by İZODER. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  40. WORK PACKAGE 6

  41. Work Package 6 This part is one of the most important parts of the project. In this work package, the execution of heat insulation and its being monitored by a thermal camera for 12 months are aimed. For 12 months, the heat insulation leakages in several parts of the building will be determined. The climate’s effect on heat insulation leakages will be studied and the changes of heat insulation materials from city to city will be observed. This application will be done in the selected buildings in Hakkari, Gümüşhane and Sakarya. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  42. Work Package 6 Within the framework of this purpose, the following aims are desired to be reached; > the effect of precipitation to a city, > the effect of heat factor in the normal and extreme points, > the effects of mountainous regime, > the effect of the wind factor, > the seasonal effect of heat insulation material (fiberglass, rock wool, strofor, insulating panel etc.), > the effect of climate on the heat insulation materials’ thickness, > the effect of climates on heat insulation materials, > the inspection of the building sections (groundwork, column, joist, tiling, wall, roof), > the detection of thermal density. www.sakarya.edu.tr

  43. Work Package 6 For the above-mentioned purposes, a comparison between the cities in which implementations were done – will be actualized. The comparison of these cities will clearly reveal the effects of climate on heat insulation. www.sakarya.edu.tr
