Disclosures No Conflict of Interest. No financial interest to disclose.AcknowledgementsThis research was made possible through the EMSCI database. EMSCI has been supported by IRP (Switzerland) and WfL (Austria).
Learning Objectives The participant will know: The difference in neurological and functional recovery between patients with a Thoracic Spinal Cord Injury (TSCI), ConusMedullaris Syndrome (CMS) and CaudaEquina Syndrome (CES). 2. Whether classification based on spinal cord injury syndromes is relevant.
Hypothesis Patients with a CMS or CES have a better neurological and functional outcome compared with TSCI patients.
Hypothesis Patients with a CMS or CES have a better neurological and functional outcome compared with TSCI patients. ???
Method EMSCI database Lower Extremity Motor Scores (LEMS) Spinal Cord Independent Measure III (SCIM) Groups Group 1: TSCI (NLI between T 1 - T10) Group 2: CMS (NLI between T11 - L1) Group 3: CES (NLI between L 2 - S5) Linear Mixed Models
Baseline Characteristics 80% of the study population was male Mean age was 41 years old.
Conclusion Overall neurological recovery (LEMS) CMS and CES >> TSCI. Overall functional recovery (SCIM III) is the same for all groups. After correction for initial AIS: AIS A and B >> AIS C and D.
