  2. The Danger of Assumption and Misunderstanding Introduction • We can avoid most misunderstandings if we simply take the time to honestly seek the truth.

  3. The Danger of Assumption and Misunderstanding • Changes often Lead to Misunderstanding. • Words of encouragement for a new beginning (22:1-8). • 1Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh (Joshua 22:18)

The Danger of Assumption and Misunderstanding • 2 and said to them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and you have obeyed me in everything I commanded. • 3For a long time now-to this very day-you have not deserted your brothers but have carried out the mission the LORD your God gave you. The Danger of Assumption and Misunderstanding • The other tribes jumped to conclusions about the altar without first investigating. • The Delegation from Shiloh (22:13-20). • 3You saw with your own eyes what the LORD did at Baal Peor. The LORD your God destroyed from among you everyone who followed the Baal of Peor, (Deut 4:3, NIV)

The Danger of Assumption and Misunderstanding • The Application for Today. • When we have a misunderstanding with another person or if we are hearing rumors about them, then we need to go and check it out. • The best way to do this is to invite the one who is telling the rumor to go with you to talk with the person.
