A belt of dry grasslands along the southern edge of the Sahara. It runs through 12 countries It is semiarid- more rainfall than a desert, but still very little Droughts are causing this land to become increasingly more desert like. This is known as desertification. It is an environmental concern for the region. The Sahel
Rainforests border the equator on either side, but the areas north and south of those rainforests are savannas. Savannas are hot dry grasslands. The soil is rich, but farming is limited because of crop damaging insects. Home to many wild animals. The Savannas
Along the equator in the Congo Basin lies the 2nd largest rainforest in the world. (Amazon is #1) A tropical rainforest is a forest close to the equator that averages over 70 inches of rain a year. Home to thousands of different plants and animals. Tropical Rainforests
