  5. Proposed Vision & Mission Vision: Preparing Texoma for tomorrow’s world Mission: Empower individuals today with the skills and knowledge for tomorrow Vision: A leader in learning Mission: GCC provides exceptional learning experiences Vision: Starting Texoma on the path to tomorrow Mission: Transform individuals to lead more meaningful, productive lives 1st2nd3rd 65% 30% 5% 30% 40% 30% 5% 30% 65% Vision & Mission - Clear statement of where GCC is headed & the reason GCC exists (23 resp0.ents)

  6. Vision & Mission - Comments • I do not like Texoma----it is all about STUDENTS I don’t think we are just Texoma---does that include Fannin?????and the High schools like Anna that we will work with in Dual Credit?? Can I put #2 and #3 together? Vision: “A leader in learning. Mission: GCC is all about student success and providing skills and knowledge for a lifetime • I like the vision statement Preparing Texoma for tomorrow’s world. Would like to see something about education. Educating Texoma for tomorrow’s world….??? • Limiting the Vision to Texoma does not allow us to express that we offer educational opportunities outside our boundaries. Think about our huge international population we serve. 2nd Choice Mission statement only • I like vision number three combined with mission number two. • I really like the “Empower…” mission statement, but really dislike using the word Texoma in the vision statement. If we want to reach Collin County, avoid using TEXOMA. They do not consider themselves TEXOMA. Also a turn off for distance learning students.

  7. Goal 1) Meet the current and future educational needs of a diverse population Provide learning opportunities in Texoma 2) Increase and maximize the use of the resources of the College Increase and optimize the use of College resources 3) Maximize enrollment Attract and retain learners 4) Attract and retain quality faculty, staff, and administration 5) Provide a supportive learning environment Provide an engaging collaborative learning environment 6) To be perceived as an excellent institution of higher education Be a willing partner in growing our community Preference 73% no change 27% 9% 91% 0% 100% No change 19% 81% 35% 65% Institutional Goals – What GCC must do to accomplish the mission (23 respondents)

  8. Goals - Comments • Again, I do not like Texoma—Sorry! • I don’t like either of the goal 6 statements. “Supportive” captures a lot of the work done outside of class, like in tutoring, testing, etc. It would be difficult to make the case that improvements in the Testing Center are engaging and collaborative. Maybe these two goals need to be separated, especially if one (engaging and collaborative) is supposed to happen inside classes. • Take out the word willing on goal 6. Goal 5 engaging and collaborative is too…engaging • If we are doing #1, we don’t need #3 • I think the use of “Texoma” limits us.

  9. Proposed Start Here, Go Anywhere Start Here, Go Far Start Here to Reach Your Goal 1st2nd3rd 59% 6% 35% 33% 39% 28% 18% 47% 35% GCC Motto (23 respondents)

  10. GCC Motto - Comments • Start Here, Go Far is used by Victoria College. Start Here, Go Anywhere is used by Gulf Coast Community in Florida. We’ll have to look into trademarks, etc. The third option doesn’t read like a slogan (to me) • How about the “Leader in Learning”? “Skills for a lifetime” I have seen these slogans on many schools • Start Here Go Far belongs to Victoria College. The brand owner is Aston Publishing Co. Ltd. Start Here Go Anywhere belongs to a number of colleges. How about “Begin Here-Go Anywhere” You CAN get THERE FROM HERE • Targeted at the traditional students. What about the transfer students that started somewhere else? • Please revisit. Does not reflect cutting edge. Too traditional! • Change Grayson County College to Grayson CollegeIt is redundant to say Grayson, the county in which we live, and repeat County. Eliminating county better reflects that we are a campus reflecting that the world is flat which is demonstrated by our large international population of students. In addition, have we not experienced growth in dual credit students who also commute from surrounding counties. It seems to be the trend to keep things simple.New Slogan: GC=Greatness CreatedAsk anyone who attended the Honors College ceremony last Thursday and they will tell you Greatness was Created in the students who gave witness to their experience in Honors College. GREAT IN THESAURUS= Remarkable in magnitude, degree, or effectiveness.Remarkable skilledMarkedly superior in character or quality long continued (Life long learning)
